Developed by HMC Interactive, Visual Voice Pro is new software that seeks to benefit children with Additional Learning Needs through stimulation via sensors, light, sound and digital media. VVP reacts to sound, creating an extraordinary visual environment where action and reaction are clearly and vibrantly displayed.

Apr - May 2009

Visual Voice Pro enabled development of a new use of software HMC Interactive are calling Cyber-therapy. Cyber-therapy uses digital media technology for therapeutic applications to create multi-sensory environments that provide therapeutic stimulation via touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste.

At present multi-sensory environment technology is expensive and only available within specialist centres. This project explored whether Cyber-therapy can use existing technologies in new ways, to provide meaningful experiences and whether more affordable solutions can be offered to specialist centres. Can the health of children with learning and physical disabilities be further improved?

Visual Voice Pro uses mixed-media to benefit children with learning and physical disabilities, reacting to sound, creating an extraordinary visual environment where action and reaction are clearly and vibrantly displayed. Using the software, children explore and control their individual experience.

The project also investigates whether providing therapy through interactive technologies delivers measurable goals that can be evaluated by digital means.

Project partners were HMC Interactive, a multimedia production company based in Plymouth, Drake Music a national music and technology organisation and bibic a national charity offering practical help for children with learning difficulties, to help live a fulfilling and more rewarding life.
