As one of the shortlisted finalists it continues to harness the energy and creativity of Bristol to extend opportunities through digital inclusion. One of its current projects is the relationship between ICT and the environment.

Connecting Bristol came out of the city’s dynamic response to the Digital Challenge, a 2007 government competition to identify a national showcase for ICT innovation.  As one of the ten shortlisted finalists Connecting Bristol continues to harness the energy and creativity of Bristol to extend opportunities through digital inclusion and works with partners in the city and the other finalists towards this goal.

The ten finalists have formed DC10, a national network which focuses on creating collaborative and learning partnerships, exchanging good practice and developing new initiatives with other local authorities, central government, the third sector and industry to achieve common Digital Inclusion goals.

Connecting Bristol works with these partners to foster opportunities for digital literacy across the city to ensure that Bristol becomes a recognised national and international showcase for digital inclusion and innovation. Through the local to global connections that are established, Connecting Bristol makes a difference, not only to local communities but also to the sustainable future of the planet.

Some of the commissioned projects Connecting Bristol is currently working on include, a study to calculate Bristol’s ICT carbon footprint and develop a Green ICT solutions database and commissioning research into the future demand for high-speed connectivity to enhance the city’s connectivity in order to develop a 3-5 year picture of emerging drivers for Broadband business and domestic users. Recent networking activities and events include a visit to Bristol from Martha Lane Fox, the Governments Digital Inclusion Champion who visited Watershed and Knowle West Media Centre.
